THE SKY MAY BE DARK TODAY...

a poem by Oredola Olamilekan Ibrahim, Nigeria

The sky may be dark today

Say the sky may be dark today;

But verily for all darkening night,

Is surely a blazing morning light!

We might wish our life should fade

Say we might wish our life should fade;

But let we remember the man called "Hope",

Surely we shall race pass through the slope!

We might be depressed in soul and spirit

Say we might be depressed in soul and spirit;

But once our heart is still pumping blood

We can make it past the flood!

We might go about in tattered cloth

Say we might go about in tattered cloth;

But if our body still tread this earth,

We shall be adorned in cloths of dearth!

We might be battered by boots and jackboots

Say we might be battered by boots and jackboots;

But if breathing still filled our mouths,

We shall have a victorious bouts!

We might be down with Megrim and Migraine

Say we might be down with Megrim and Migraine;

But if this our body, still they strife,

We shall live a healthful life!

We might go about with empty bellies

Say we might go about with empty bellies;

But if at all our mouth is still a right,

we've got to have the largest bite!

For our sky may be dark today

Say our sky may be dark today;

But verily for all darkening night,

Is surely a blazing morning light!
