BARD BLUES

a poem by William Willis, Scotland

I got an invite through the post.
An invite for our Bard to toast.
A night of haggis, rhyme and song.
Shortbread,poems and whisky,strong!

We'll celebrate our Rabbie Burns.
And toast his poems and songs he's sung.
I'll now dust down my old guitar.
And learn a tune of our Great Bard.

My old guitar,i'll tune the strings.
And see what melody it brings.
Pitch perfect tone and ready to play?
I'll sing the words the Rabbie way.

So much is known about your story.
I'll play your song in all it's glory.
A sensational lullaby in rhyme.
But not the tune to Auld Lang Syne.

I've got the tune inside my head.
I've practiced till my fingers bled.
So Saturday night,here i come.
My tribute to our Prodigal Son.
