a poem by Nancy Ellen Crossland, USA

We sprint and run
The race eternally on
From glints of daylight
Until the sun is down

Time in between to breathe
To rest
Again we rise
To face each test

We blink we gaze
Through sunlit days
Pondering each moment
Whatever the phase

Though steps may falter
Vigor drained
We meet each challenge
To start again

We pass the torch
When it is time
And close our eyes
Smiling saying:
"It once was mine."
