Come, Let Us Rebuild ( with Japan in our hearts and minds)

a poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen, Denmark

Tsunami and earthquake in Japan
come like thieves in the night
stealing treasures, snatching lives.

They swim like hungry gluttons
sipping all waves of the ocean
and spitting them at humans.

They march forward as conquerors
declaring themselves as the winner
over and against the crying people.

Come, let us rebuild and find!
Find the unfortunates in the ruins
and rubbles; search through the shores!

Come, let us rebuild and pray
Pray for strength and health
Pray for love and solidarity.

Fury of Nature and Human Responsibility
Rescue Operation in Japan
