Awakening

a poem by Richard Gildea, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

(A Lenten promise made)

Inspiration held in hand, a magic wand of horsehair brush
To place upon the canvas rare, a mindful image to impart
Background wash prepares the way, a base upon from which to build
A memory brought forth to share, painted in with heartfelt touch

I mix and add some powdered tints, for hues not primary in truth
A happy accident occurs, when revelation comes to pass
The Rock that rolled away is shown, symbolic of the gate to life
Appearing through the layer glazed, a message shown in words foretold

Under drawn with loving care, awaiting cloak of textured kind
No more the headed Crown of Thorns, no more the feet and hands are nailed
Translucent colour fills the frame of Him whom Hades can’t contain
The Spirit flow within creates and spreads the word of joy for all

“Who art thou who shines so bright”? That dominates the scene in view
“I am He thou doth await, come follow me where Kingdom reigns”
To capture held belief’s portrayed, I build up layers impasto
A witnessed act of one laid down, the Risen Lord has come this day
