LIKE CHAPTERS FROM A BOOK

a poem by Edwin Keith Jepson, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

When your eyes grow tired
And your body aches
And you cant sleep
And morning breaks
Then you know youve reached
That certain age
Like chapters
From a book
You have turned every page
And when youre in pain
And all alone
You sit
And stare
At the telephone
Then eventually
A friend calls by
Has a chat
Then waves goodbye
And you realise
Youve reached the age
Like chapters from a book
You have turned every page
But sometimes fate
Can lend a hand
And there are days
When you feel grand
And you have no time
To sit and rest
These are the moments
When you are at your best
But when your eyes grow tired
And your body aches
And you cannot sleep
Till morning breaks
Then you know youve reached
That certain age
Like chapters from a book
You have turned every page
