Death By Chocolate

a poem by Rita Joyce Singh, India

‘Struck by lightning’ was her favourite snack
Love at first sight, so spoke their common friends
Both met at a chocolate shop years back
selfless love not chocolate made amends
That very same summer they two were wedded
Now if he sees the shop, he mourns his wife
He was indulgent, she fluffy headed
Unheeding , capricious, ending her life
Later years she had it, blood sugar woes
He tried his best to stop her foolish way
Restrict her favourite snack, God only knows
More chocolate would kill you he would say
And Lo! Before one night was gone, she was
Coup de foudre, death by chocolate, the cause.
