a poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen, Denmark

If the body is only flesh
How meaningless it is
To simply rot in a space,.
If mind is only full of logic,
How small it is, unable to
Explain all life’s mysteries.

If the human heart is filled
With hate and bitterness,
Where does it derive
The well- spring of love,
Able to accept and forgive?
If man and woman claim
To be gods, who can save
Them from their own stupid ways?

And yet the body and the spirit
The mind and hidden mysteries
The heart of love and forgiveness
Bring back to our time the truth
Of human existence-created,
Destined to faith and service
By the Lord who gave Jesus
As the way, the truth and life.

August 4, 2011, written in the car on the way to a rented Summer House in Vigsø.
