a poem by Edwin Keith Jepson, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

When friends come round
To my house
Its the usual way for me
By greeting them
With traditional words
Would you like a cup of tea
We sit around and gossip
With biscuits on our knee
Then before we realise
What time it is
Its another cup of tea
My room is warm and cosy
And time ebbs out to sea
But being a delightful host
I once again brew tea
And when our meetings over
I give a little sigh
But tomorrow is another day
For gossip
And apple pie
