Primary Embrace

a poem by Richard Gildea, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

A background wash prepares the way, for dreams upon a canvas told
With palette knife now held in hand, the spread of mounting feelings form
Impasto layers raise the stakes, for friends who now will brave the waves
As grains of sand imprinted on my memory, beneath the oceans rest

Elusive inspiration comes, in hues less secondary in thought
Strands of starlight catch the face possessed by one of image rare
With profile in my mind perchance to squeeze in primary embrace
Pick up my wand of influence, with strokes of pure and loving kind

Creation shows in many shades of truth within an open heart
Of giving to the one who waits upon a lonely distant shore
Mixing of emotions fraught in medium that eases pain
Expression of our lives in Art, of knowing one who’s just the same
