IT SOUNDS LIKE A MERRY CHRISTMAS (onomatopoeia)

a poem by Jacinta Ramayah, Malaysia - poetry writer, author, poet

There’s a rap-a-tap on the door
A mighty ringing of the buzzer,
Plop as cards fall on the carpet
Woof! Ah, the mailman’s here.

Vroom goes the vacuum-cleaner
Squelch! Dust-mites squished in,
Spidery legs are scooting out fast
Wham! Mum zooms in to clean.

Cousins snip ribbons on presents
And dad clicks away on his camera,
While baby bawls and rattles a din
The guys are guzzling down beer.

Sizzling oil is splattering in the pan
Sugar is bubbling on the hot stove,
Gravy’s dripping on the baking tray
The turkey is roasting with love.

Jingle-jangle of sleigh on the roof
I hear Santa whispering to his deer,
Snow flutters soft like cotton wool
Lilt of crooning carolers draw near.

Lights twinkle on the green Yule tree
Music blares out a hallelujah blast,
As family yackety-yaks in the hall
Christmas quietly rustles in at last.
