“Well That's Another Fine Mess You've Gotten Us Into”.

a poem by Keith Lumbard, UK

My humble contribution to Susan's inspiring title challenge

“Well that's another fine mess you've gotten us into”, (Of Stanley Ollie cries),
Who mutters, utters, shrills and splutters with looks of sheer surprise,
In innocence then lifts his eyes and ruffles up his hair,
Whilst Ollie sighs and gives a humph with a wide bewildered stare,

Ollie then without a thought and seeking just deserve,
Relinquishing all etiquette, refinement and reserve,
Not resting on his laurels (past), this paunch and hardy man,
Jumps upon his bowler hat then hands it back to Stan,

Now Stanley even more perplexed serves up a cheeky beam,
As Ollie palms away the dust does Stanley steel the scene?
It was the hat that Ollie owned held crumpled in his hand,
Things hadn't really gone the way that poor old Ollie planned,

And there he stood with upturned smile and nodding of the head,
With puffed out facial features, and cheeks of rosy red,
“Douuuuuugh” could be the noise you heard whilst chomping at the bit,
And utters, mutters, splutters, shrills, as Stan prepares to split,

Oh what scenes of sheer delight they gave us down the years?
Oliver and Hardy had us crying out in tears,
Sorely missed yet not forgotten, Kings of comedy,
Nevermore the likes these two, ever more could be,

Quote: Stan Laurel once said, “If anyone cried at his funeral, he would never speak to them again”. What a line and one I agree with. It will be a party for me and I will be there in spirit.

May I take this opportunity to wish all my friends here on VN a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and Happy New Year.
