Blindfold

a poem by Dale Costello, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

The excecated man
led carefully
through firing squad and scaffold
death lingering
in scared protesting ears
blindfold
wet with constant tears
sun burning hairless crown
sweat slaked on shivering skin
pool of bodies drown
silence in their wake
becoming oceans as he's led
through journey of the dead
only a sky missing its mark
coordinates invisible
approaching precision in troubled dark
til leading and man converge
upon place, time, birth
captive inhabitation
slow mourning of migration
fingers struggling with knot...
