Day off

a poem by Leif Phillips, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

I love a barbied chop
with coleslaw and some bread
potato salad piled so high
the dog cant see my head
I love the cricket playing
at the Adelaide test
flicking to the tennis
my wife she is a pest
I love when kids say beauty
cos they are Aussies
through and through
I love this sun drenched country
this convict settlement
and all that keep it true
I love the native people
love their culture
and if you please
I would love Australia day more
if it was shared
with better memories.
