Out Of The Nest

a poem by Christine Anne Shaw, UK

Since he left home
I have a hole in my heart,
as wide as the Missisipi river,
deeper than Hells Canyon
and twice as long as the Missouri.
I'm first rate with a needle and thread,
but how long will it take
to make a repair
and for the ache to dissipate?
