Hope and freedom

a poem by Elizabeth Grace Shearer, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

Feelings of hopelessness, like there is no chance of freedom
but Jesus is king and he reigns in his kingdom
We have access to heaven, access to hope
No longer feeling bound or struggling to cope

Jesus already paid the great price for our sin
now we have freedom and security in him
We are dead to our old selves, not bound by world's rules
but instead we have life, no longer counted fools

The world may seem hectic and not quite going to plan
but God promises to help us if we believe that he can
His power is more than anything we will face
His suffering much greater as he sent his son in our place

We must never forget that this world is not our home
He has prepared a place where we'll worship at his throne
A hope for the future and freedom from the law
As children of God we have this and so much more.
