caterpillars

a poem by Dale Costello, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

There once was a boy
born on a planet spinning round
a permanent source of light
gardens made of ground
he loved his solar orbit
with caterpillars he'd play
til afternoon of morning
into nap time every day
the twilight was his favourite
always remembering to wake
the returning of his father
and into smile he'd break
smile turning into joy
father wearing a smile his own
laughter careless within trust
born of love as its sown
night will make him weary
a drink and then off to sleep
to dream perhaps of wondrous things
within a wonder he will keep.
