DISCARDED BLANKETS

a poem by Jacinta Ramayah, Malaysia - poetry writer, author, poet

It’s that time of the year
when the sun sizzles -
on your head and arms
and above the ground,
The air so dry your hair
browns and frizzles
with no breeze to swirl
fallen leaves around.

Even when darkness rules
the land, heat lingers -
with febrile frenzy
it clogs pores on skin,
The blanket that kept you
in slumber’s pleasures
is thrown aside and forgot
till December blows in.
