“A THANKSGIVING PRAYER.” (November 26th 1978.)

a poem by ROY Douglas KNEALE, UK

Morning came – slept like an infant
PRAISE YOU GOD - My darling phoned.
YOU HAVE BLESSED HER – she is coping
We’ll be rescued - As we planned;
Understand me – I was worried
Days went by - No word from her
Please forgive – My faith was failing
Hope unseen was hard to bear.
THANK YOU FATHER – FOR YOUR MERCY
Help us both to serve YOU right
Smooth our path and ease our burden
Through each day and through each night.
DEAR CREATOR – please be generous
Pour Your Spirit - Light her life
Cause her always to remember
She’s Your daughter - She’s my wife;
Keep her always from temptation
Strengthen her within Your Law
Help her see – when YOU are near her
Guiding her through every door.
KEEP HER LORD – in strength of purpose
Chaste and pure her every need
Place Your WORD - AS HOLY SPIRIT
Sparing her from lust or greed.
HOLY HEALER – soothe her body
Banish illness - Stress and pain
Intervene – in every sickness
Please restore her whole again.
GRACIOUS - PATIENT – always present
All is seen by YOU dear GOD
THANK YOU LORD – For all Your comfort
And for Your correcting rod.
HALLELUJAH – FOR YOUR BLESSINGS
When my spirit weakly groaned
Morning came – Now I’m rejoicing
PRAISE YOU GOD
My darling phoned.
Amen.

[Author’s Note: This was composed over 33 years ago, when I was in New Zealand, and was mailed to my wife at what was then our home, in Scottsdale, Arizona. We were, at that time, beset by serious financial and health problems. Sad to relate, our problems were not solved, but, nevertheless, I continued, during the ensuing 14 years, to preach in faith believing. R.D.K.]
