a poem by John George Williams, Canada - poetry writer, author, poet

In moments that belong to silence
I hear only my heart beat
while shadows racing on the wall
are my deepest thoughts in motion.
Murky memories fade in and out,
transparent illusions creep quietly
along the edges of sleep
as I disturb the darkness
with each breath.

In moments that belong to silence
I wait for the ambers of passion
to restore the flame of desires
into the depth of night dreams
where I will embrace
the colorful illusions of love.

In moments that belong to silence
I am held by the arms of peace,
watching and hearing its meaning
as time creates the word " still ".
The flickering flame of my lone candle
dances upon my soul,
I am as quiet as I can be,
like murmurs of thoughts
rolling in a long secluded valley.
I have not allowed the deeds
of my active and creative day
remove my passion for peace
nor the comfort of quality time
from these moments of silence.

In moments that belong to silence,
in stillness that belong to thoughts
rolling like waves upon the sea
feasting from the joys of reality.
I have given away lifes turmoil
to the shepherd of the night,
I need no longer burden myself
to the cold visions of the day.
I must melt into lifes wisdom
taking stock of what I have done
while letting the dark clouds
of each day unravel
and the peace found in my silence
guide me to where I rightfully belong.
