pie and cake(taylor melody)

a poem by Leif Phillips, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

I went to the kitchen cupboard
just this very morn
Ricki it was the timeslot
that was the end of you
I was looking for a snack
but the food it was all gone
and I’m not sure I remember
the door I’m waddling thru

yeah I seen pie and I’ve seen cake
I’ve eaten meals a team of chefs couldn’t make
had pigs on spit at work without taking a break
but I always thought I’d see my feet again

well don’t look at me sideways Squizzy
I won’t fit in the frame
just help me to squeeze into these pants
I’ve eaten things that once had a name
poor little Squizzy never had a chance

yeah I seen pie and I’ve seen cake
I’ve seen bakers cry cos they dropped a plate
I once chewed the arm off my best mate
but I always thought I’d see my feet again

been thinking bout a diet and maybe a coke
my brother reckons the food will be the end of me
sat on a park bench and the park bench it broke
I’m suing the council for its inadequacy

oh I’ve seen pie and I’ve seen cake
I saw a hospital ward and a surgeons funny face
I saw a doctors bill I don’t think I can take
but I always thought I’d see my feet some place
yeah I thought I saw some toes just then
oh no I’ve lost my shoes again
could you find them please just look around…
