the knowing

a poem by Leif Phillips, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

I hear the world speak
as if the world should listen
raising their voices
for Allah, Jesus and the like
yet I never knew
the ability to decide absolute truth
in picking up a book
deciding one tribe blessed
while the others go wordless or worse
or that God gave the flame
for mere men to carry
to save others
yet only within a name
I am not blind to our frailties
and I would suggest
if the Devil exists
he would enjoy the many books
dividing my brothers and sisters
all deciding a fractured eternity
while I live in this heart
with all of you
and a love created to be true
I know you can’t know
we are all born human
and our knowing
is born the same too.
