I Moved Out

a poem by Skye Kerri- Leigh Bagshaw, UK

I moved out to be happy
And to escape my oppressive chains
From your expectations, obligation and alienation

I moved out five months ago
And I was treated like a criminal and a stranger
And the peculiar thing was that it was a familiar feeling

You never could understand me and my deviance.
I loathed the restrictions of conformity
And being unwelcome and the black sheep
No matter how hard I tried

I moved out
And I'm glad
I have escaped
