Sickened

a poem by Olomolehin John, Nigeria

Every political dawn in my country
is always a new cut
into another layer of a spoilt citrus

Every outcome of policies
is always another squeeze
of that contaminated juice
carrying numerous germs
from the diseased tree that has long been planted
on a fertile soil
and maintained at each tenure
by visionless gardeners
