a poem by Olomolehin John, Nigeria

When my lover dumped me
i felt an emptiness in my heart
that many consolations could not fill

It felt like a shameful defeat
wherein my concealed deficiencies
were exposed to a crowd of spectators

I felt like a dethroned ruler
whose wounded pride forced him
into an exile

Relief came
after many healing seasons
but the pain still revisits my heart
like a restless creditor in constant touch
with his debtor.
