HALF PAST YESTERDAY

a poem by Nancy Ellen Crossland, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

I grasp at wisps of time
Fragments of dreams
That once were mine

In wondrous pleasure
Of life's performance
Did I think it would play
An extended engagement?

Too soon the circus tent collapsed
Leaving remnants
Of a forgotten past
While the carousel spun
Round and 'round
My attempts of that brass ring
Alas,
Had fallen to the ground

There are still faint cheers
Rallying me on
Pushing me forward
To those goals
I may abscond

Yet
There it is
A glimmer;
That emerging light
Of a new day
Redemption is in sight
Before it is
Half past yesterday.
