Desperation

a poem by Elizabeth Grace Shearer, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

Lord I feel completely lost here, I dont know what to do
I'm standing on your promises because I know they are true
I'm trying to follow you but it seems your footsteps aren't so clear
I want to walk with you but I'm afraid to let you steer

You have brought me out of darkness, into your light
but still in my mind part of me wants to be right
I feel stuck between my past and not knowing what lies ahead
I know that this wont last but right now its hard to tread

Please give me your strength to see it through to the end
I know that I cant do this without you, my Savior and friend
I know you hear my cry's for help and listen to my complaining
Please lighten this load if I must continue in this training

I have experienced your Joy that surpasses all understanding
Joy that made me feel able to fly without worrying on landing
But as I stand here I feel so lonely and dejected
Fear crept in my heart and is now in my actions reflected

Lord I cling onto your promise that perfect love casts out fear
I come to you now in desperation, please come draw near
I need your peace and wisdom to see what you can see
Gazing on your beautiful face, I want to be as you made me to be

I know that in my struggling you are holding me tight
your right hand wrapped around me, displaying infinite might
I don't know what to do next but I'm choosing to trust you
For I know no matter what happens your love for me is true.
