a poem by ROY Douglas KNEALE, UK

While ‘today’ remained a far away ‘tomorrow’
You were always in my thoughts
An integral part
Of the plans I was making then
And when
You would cling to me
Your love became the focus burning in my heart
Time and time again.

Although I often went away
To some distant place
And hated leaving you behind
I’d find
When I longed for you
If I touched your photograph
Your pleasant face
Always eased my mind.

You were always sweet to me
Making me feel glad
I was the one you waited for
To adore
Through every moment spent
Holding on to each other
Feeling what we had
Was for evermore.

You were on my mind today
As a long-lost friend
Whose heart I once chanced to borrow
But sorrow
Stole our dreams away
And my tender thoughts of you
Must come to an end –
Until tomorrow.
