My Rose Bush

a poem by Phillip Joseph Hussey, UK

Many years ago
I planted a rose bush
It grew several buds
But only one bloomed
A deep red rose of love
Its petals opened to the sun
I smelled its fresh aroma
Droplets sparkled on petals
Glistening like diamonds
A velvet tinge to touch
Its fruit flashed at me
I saw its heart so pure
And desired to fill it
After many years
I found that same bush
There beaming in the light
Was the same blossom
Bold and sweet as ever
Still waiting to be filled.
