Hearts Crime Of A Poet

a poem by Linda Bates Terrell, USA

My lips quiet, aloof
but my heart, my thoughts
like rivers flow

My touch, gentle
but my bold power of words
like tigers claws

My feet forceful, push
but my thoughts flutter
like birds wings.

What is a poets life but a
swirling gobble of words
collected for all time

What is it in a verse or rhyme
while I grasp each thought in time
as if stealing its meaning, mine, mine
I swaddle it.... mine....like a crime.
