This afternoon all clocks went wrong (I)

a poem by Michelle Klemm, Germany - poetry writer, author, poet

She waited near the bridge
and waited for so long.
What could have happened?
Her lover didn't come.

A business man ran
past her hurrying,
almost his dispatch case
was he loosing.

As the bell chimed
tourists stopped and stared,
delighted and surprised by
seeing the figures unprepared.

On the pleasure boat
she heard a baby cry,
they all sweltered in the sun,
no head wind let hair fly.

Children poured out of
the schoolhouse in doves,
being in high spirits;
today school did close.

She waited near the bridge
and waited for so long.
What could have happened?
Why did he not come?

Men hurrying,
tourists pausing,
others waiting,
kids screaming;

that couldn't be by chance!
For her the answer was hence:
this afternoon all clocks went wrong -
the only explanation that came along.
