Tired Tractor

a poem by Kevin Rottweiler, USA

the old rusty tractor
on the farm
like an old farmer
is all worn out

rust on his gills
rust on his rudder
not about to set sail
spark plugs not a churning
inside though
a spirit burning

used to haul in a ton of corn
pulling the cart like an oxen
you could see the raindrops
on his sides like
the perspiration on a bull
this one would never give up

rain or shine
the tired tractor
would be drinking coffee
at 4 AM
a day ready in working sunshine
amongst scare crows and sun flowers

end of the day
meant a lot of sitting
and resting
just a resting
tired tractor
in a museum of tired arms
loving and working on the farm
