Soccer Fields of College

a poem by Kevin Rottweiler, USA

when I was younger
we kicked that soccer ball
banging off aluminum poles
a goalie never saw it
wishing to be free
and young forever
but that is not true
we get older
and we get bolder
soccer fields of college
green with sun
clouds so big
you need a dump truck
to carry them to Heaven
and we were having fun
some worries
but better off than some
living off hundred thousand dollar
college loans
for ten years of life
kicking that ball
every chance we could
laughing at the students
that took life too seriously
green with sun
and dreams
athletic, academic, charismatic
you need a dump truck
to take those clouds to Heaven
