Hoping Against Hope

a poem by Raghunandan Ram, India

O’ Hope !
I doubt what I see,
God locked in a shell,
O’ Hope !
I doubt what I see,
God locked in a shell,
Devils guised in a veil,
The ill lived on sale;
Women in a quell,
The jobless looking pale,
Worried of day-to-day
Vain announcement mail,
And the polity of sympathy
On sufferers’ snivel,
But there hope lives to avail,
As human heritage,
Bond of heart & mind
And sigh till last sail.
O’ Hope!
I fear when I see,
One’s face with pits & spots,
One’s mind with plans & plots,
In a jeopardized state;
Unable to dot on the slate,
On Conjugal arthritis,
Dreaded falconer ISIS ,
Religious dragon,
NEXAL photon
Damini ’s agonies;
Young Manu’s anxieties,
& farmers’ furies,
Or in the dictionary of
Love , liberty & equality.
But the poet, the late riser
Gets up early today,
Sips tea & offers his wife, too
In a fine mood & a fresh day
Re-enlivens his hope
With budding lovely Sun
And sees
Love, peace & happiness,
coming back to home.

Devils guised in a veil,
The ill lived on sale;
Women in a quell,
The jobless looking pale,
Worried of day-to-day
Vain announcement mail,
And the polity of sympathy
On sufferers’ snivel,
But there hope lives to avail,
As human heritage,
Bond of heart & mind
And sigh till last sail.
O’ Hope!
I fear when I see,
One’s face with pits & spots,
One’s mind with plans & plots,
In a jeopardized state;
Unable to dot on the slate,
On Conjugal arthritis,
Dreaded falconer ISIS ,
Religious dragon,
NEXAL photon
Damini ’s agonies;
Young Manu’s anxieties,

Or in the dictionary of

But the poet, the late riser
Gets up early today,
Sips tea & offers his wife, too
In a fine mood & a fresh day
Re-enlivens his hope
With budding lovely Sun
And sees
Love, peace & happiness,
coming back to home.
