Rats In The Trains

a poem by Raghunandan Ram, India

Rats In The Trains
Rats in the trains
Unafraid of cats’ brains,
House owners’ shrewd frames,
Hide & play underneath the berths
At times touch the passengers’ feet
To prove their environmental boldness
Run freely from chairs to chairs
In a quest of bags & bundles
As the security Forces do
In the let loose of decontrol.
Rats in the trains
Unafraid of cats’ brains,
House owners’ shrewd frames,
Search the packages
Not the passengers;
When the Forces count
Both the persons & the bundles,
Not the miscreants & the pickpockets.
Rats from homes to trains,
Forces from trains to barracks
How long they shall be a threat,
To safer rail, better rail
And to make India, the Great.
