Why a Son Needs a Dad

a poem by tobias kerins, UK

A son needs a dad
Who knows to have fun
Always smiling and cheerful
Neither gloomy nor glum

To be playful and silly
Yet teach him that respect must be earned
Learn from his mistakes
Or his fingers are will be burned

To teach responsibility
Share wisdom which is not yet acquired
Chase and pursue the lovely girls
Aim to achieve what is desired

To take him fishing
But to discipline him firmly and fare
Give protection and affection
Love relentlessly and care

To tell him he is proud of him
When and where to seek advice
It's not necessary to be like everyone else
Stand strong and firm, open your eyes

Show how to control his temper
Help nurture his independence
Ignorance is not an excuse
Encourage and develop patience

Learn how to listen when others are tired
To be glorious whether you win or lose
Shoe how to tie a necktie
And polish those leather Brogue shoes

Teach him how to shave
Avoid selfish temptation
Show love is unselfish
A truely wonderful creation

But most of all to be told he is loved
He is truely wanted must be made clear
Invite this son into the family security
Where you love him so much he is oh so dear

The Maltese Falcon Vol I
The Rivers of Blood Part I
