Grasp The Nettle

a poem by tobias kerins, UK

There are times in my life when I've wondered why
I didn't crumble and break down and cry
An uphill battle that I overpowered
There was no retreat and I never cowered

Isolated and a figure alone
Wished that others they had known
About my troubles and terrified mind
But the mask I wore made them blind

I made excuses and denied the truth
Hoping they would find the proof
No accusations of who to blame
Shivering and full of shame

There were no questions and no answers given
No investigations which were police driven
I was still alone but stood so tall
I would not crumble and would not fall

Knowing it wouldn't last forever
I had to be so very clever
Show control and grasp the nettle
Those dark old days I would settle

No Smoke Without Fire
The Maltese Falcon Vol I
As Cold As Stone
