For Bob Maccia

a poem by Olomolehin John, Nigeria

The news of your death
Immersed me into a deep consciousness
Like a painter's brush
Returned again quietly into a bottle of ink

The influence of your poetry
Is a massive magnetic field
Absorbing various poets and readers
From all the hemispheres

You have been an elegant architect and a builder:
Magnificent palaces and a paradise
With the wonders wonders of your words and works

Your life is not the body that died
'cause the body is just a mortal container
Existing as an evidence of life passing through it
You live on
Just that your departure to continue in heaven
Is a loss for the remaining of us here
Like the comforting relief
The desert travellers used to enjoy
Under a huge canopy tree
Before it's sudden fall by an invading storm.
