I GOT YOU BABY BOY(for my dearest brother)

a poem by peninnah ng'ang'a, Kenya

If I would lay down my life
For a man who now sleeps in the arms of another lover.
If I would give up mine
For the life of my best friend
Who half the time drives me beyond the line of sanity.
What about you my dearest brother?
You who warmed the spot I lay
In our beloved mother's womb.
What makes you think there is any a thing
I would reserve from you
Dear brother?

I got you baby boy
I got you!
