Part Time Writer - To be sung to the tune of Stevie Wonder's Part Time Lover

a poem by Nishu Mathur, India

If you see me write; scribbling furiously
Shaking my head frustratedly...
You will know that I am a part time writer

I script and edit, brain storm my mind
Struggle for content ...hoping to find
Something that appeals - for I am a part time writer

I write prose by day (and poetry by night)
Keying on the keyboard till morning arrives
I pen tag lines hoping that they may please
But the team leader groans..says, "yikes, eeks or sheesh!"

And then I get back into the groove
Hoping that the boss may approve
Oh yeah..I am a part time writer

I draft books, setting good thoughts a sail
I even have to write voluminous mails
The world must read - I must make it brighter

I write prose by day (and poetry by night)
Keying on the keyboard till morning arrives
Catchy ads must come tumbling with skill...
Or else, I am likely to be grilled...

I've got something that I must say
It's my job - how I earn my pay
I love it - oh, I am a part time writer

Even if I goof up my scripts
My mind doesn't work...it kicks and trips
I try hard - I am a part time writer
The part perhaps that gets to me
Is that I seem to be writing endlessly
Now doesn't that make me ...a full time writer?
Oh yea, I am a full time writer...
That makes me a full time writer....

Note -

(I work as a content writer and editor now. Though part time, I end up writing at odd hours at times, if something is urgent. I write 'prose' for the Foundation I work for and of course poetry, for myself. Sometimes, I don't get things right :) and have to redo the content...had particularly difficult days last week and hence this parody)
