The Betrayal (lyrics)

a poem by Lady Shaula Salathe, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

Dedicated to Amy How

She married him when she was just a girl
And the time they spent together felt like it would never end
And he stared at her like she was his whole world
And she shared the whole excitement with her hand maiden friend

And together they’d laugh and they’d dream…..
But things in the castle aren’t always what they seem…

Summer after summer of perfection
The prince of her dreams and the girl in who she’d trust
But winter and the snow showed imperfection
And autumn follows summer as it surely must

And together they’d laugh and they’d dream…..
But things in the castle aren’t always what they seem…
And a hand maiden can be in disguise
There are things that are dark that can lurk behind the eyes

And love……. that is young…….. can go wrong……. so wrong……..
And she……… couldn’t see………what was there…….. all along

He said that she alone was just his girl
He seemed a little distant when she asked
And she stared at him like he was her whole world
And wondered what the words were that he masked

And together they’d laugh and they’d dream…..
But things in the castle aren’t always what they seem…
And a hand maiden’s heart sometimes can stray
To a man she can almost touch every day

And love……. that is young…….. can go wrong……. so wrong……..
And she……… couldn’t see………what was there…….. all along
