porcupine hearts and tree stumps

a poem by Dale Costello, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

Porcupine hearts
poison in the ink
as hell freezes over
and heaven
burns quietly
at the well of words
wonder waits
possession drinks

stones
climbing the fallen sky
thrown, tossed, heaped
attempting to
hold down the bones
of every thought
as they leap
ghost again

she can almost feel
the stars
dragging her under
sighing
we'll need a thousand miles
of sleep
an engine
empty of dream

I break my fall
with every thought of you
tracing your lips
hearing the seasons
a thought
breaking through
in the world
honest, in the bleeding

bury me
when im gone
out back with the stumps
trees
brothers
too deep to tame,
universe
beautiful..
beyond the nothing.
