Faces

a poem by Mariam Gabrielle, United Arab Emirates

What do I see? What do I feel? What do I hear?
Most of the time, people don’t seem what they appear.
Some may smile in your face and stab you from behind
Others say praises, but when you’re not looking, they malign.

Friend, foe, team mate, opponent
Who does really say what they meant?
Who sincerely lent an ear?
Who truly wiped your tear?

Despite all things going on
Just go on and pass on the baton.
People who matters will stay
Phony shatters and go away.

World keeps on turning like a wheel
You have to keep an even keel
Because you cannot depend on WHO.
You can only BELIEVE in YOU.
