Roaches and Butterflies

a poem by Drsudarsan Damodar Prasad, India

High flying cockroaches
Flitting around the corridors
Of power and politics
Spreading hate and diseases
Attaining great heights!
Ugly and repulsive sights!

Silken wings
Beautiful sights
Colored heavens
Called flowers
Alighting like dreams
Savoring nectar and bliss

Butterflies you transport us
To heavens
From earth and back
In tow are the angels
And the forest fairies!

Poet's delight
His anguish
His pen and his muse
About God and his design
None can feign
Ignorance of the pain
Or the pleasure of creatures
At work ;
In the realm of senses !
