$15

a poem by Mthandazo Ngwenya, Zimbabwe

I invested my savings in a life assurance firm,
three years spanning more than thousand,
then when i came to surrender,
i was surprised oh surprised,

More than 3 months elapsed,
I nothing was in my bank account,
i phoned the woman behind the desk,
she told me i was paid 3 months ago,
i asked her how much, for i did not receive a dime,
she told me "$15", paid in June 2017,
so insignificant that i did not track it.

I feld a blow hitting me to the ground,
why/, they I joined a policy that accumulates less in early years,
I asked for the district manager,
she told me the same thing oh i was deceived,

The policy agent deceived me oh,
I said to her "Good for you thank you",
in this world of greediness , one has to be careful,
hyenas are preying for hard workers' investments,
God forgive them for they dont know what they are doing.
