Who do you love? - for my friend Marie (#81)

a poem by Richard Gildea, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

If e'er true love doth permeate one's shell
Twud be as if in trance, or held in thrall
Perhaps as tho were hexed (bewitched by spell)
A state of mind preventing clear recall
Yet whom amongst (in truth) can scarce deny
Capitulation in its sweetest form
Consenting hearts so oft' thru need comply
Adherence to what seems to be the norm
Tis only now when looking back o'er time
I've come to view such 'friendships' as cruel curse
Those wasted years, when I was in my prime
and forward gear was mostly in reverse
No longer need I strive; oneself berate
As solitary heart - finds true 'Soulmate'
