FOREVER AND THE SNOW

a poem by Conrad Kruger van den Bergh, South Africa - poetry writer, author, poet

(In loving memory of Sebastian)

Forgive us for we did not understand
no, never did your beauty let us know
of how the winters raged within your hand
perhaps it was forever and the snow.
Forgive us if we never heard you wept
when all the ice and gales came to blow
we did not see your lovely heart was swept
perhaps it was forever and the snow.
Forgive us for we did not see you fall
when by the frost and winds your grace did go
no, never did we know how hard you call
perhaps it was forever and the snow;
but in our penitence you are our guide
forever and the snow, here by our side.
