On turning twenty

a poem by Anjani George, India

Akhi, so you finally turn twenty
Kinda fast that was if you ask me
How to cope with a boy who’s past his teens
I’m sort a gettin butterflies in ma tummy
Listin out what you ought a be doin

The world is yours, so go get at it
Ups and downs in life will come and go
Run the race, fair and just
Never letting go of compassion and empathy
Summing it all, live life to its fullest

The time is here, think and act
Win or lose, take it in your stride
Endeavour and endurance the cutting edge
Near to God, may you always be
The women in your life, be gentle to them
Young man, always have a way of your own
