The Showers

a poem by Anjani George, India

The monsoon winds sting my face
Shock of cool waves leaving a trace

Of the joyful anticipation weighing my mind
For I see the clouds are dark and heavily lined

It is not long before the downpour will begin
And everything will be washed anew akin

Be it a sprinkle, rainstorm cloud burst or drizzle
Or even a torrent, shower, squall or mizzle

How beautiful just to watch the lash of water drops
The rhythms, the beats – as my heart croons and hops

My spirits lifted to heights unsurpassed
And my mind wealthy with the gaiety amassed

That the sultry summer has finally given way
And it’s time to welcome the sublime rainy day.
