Our Light

a poem by Mehran Mokhtarpour, Iran - poetry writer, author, poet

Running alone scared through the cave
They made for me by my own hands
Wanting to take this golden leash off
My golden heart beats no more

I had such high hopes for everyone I saw
Everyone I touched turned to stone
When fear takes hold of all you loved
Your sweetest dreams are of when you're awake

They showed us the way, they gave me their words
They tore down the walls, they showed us their might
And while we were dancing, while we were reveled
While we were taken, they stole our light

I tried to hide from my own shades
But they gave me shelter, they gave me food
Why are we here? Why do we fight...
Cease your resitance and give in to the night...

They showed us the way, they gave me their words
They tore down the walls, they showed us their might
And while we were dancing, while we were reveled
While we were taken, they stole our light
